I dived in Tobago
in October 2005. I was lucky to be allowed to join the diving group
that was ready to depart to Speyside Bay with
Manta Dive
on my first day. When I saw there were no seats left I suggested that I
traveled at the back of the pickup car with the dive gear. One of our
dives was spent looking for what is known as the biggest brain
coral in the world (over 5 meters in diameter) to no avail, but while
looking for the giant brain coral we saw lots of other interesting
stuff. Visibility was around 10 meters and water
temperature was 29-31°C. I had lived in Trinidad for a year in 1980
while working for Schlumberger and Amoco Oil and had come to Tobago on
my first days off. The island is so developed now
when compared to what it was, but still pleasant.
