Georgia

I love the Peach State. In Atlanta you'll see exhilarating contemporary architecture, elegant shops, smart restaurants and the highly efficient public transportation MARTA. There are 40 streets named Peachtree Street in Atlanta alone. Atlanta is the home to the global headquarters of CNN. Prestigious Georgia Tech University and Emory University, and world famous CDC, Center for Disease Control are located in Atlanta. Martin Luther King Jr. has its own Historical Site here in his hometown Atlanta. Hartsfield Airport is the busiest in the world (based on passenger loads.) Peachtree Plaza Hotel, a 73-story cylindrical tower, is the tallest hotel in the Western Hemisphere.

Underground Atlanta is a shopping, entertainment and dining area built on the historical site where Atlanta was founded in 1837. Adjacent to Underground Atlanta is The World of Coca-Cola. This drink was first sold at a pharmacy in Atlanta in 1886, as a syrup thought to be helpful for headache relief.

The 1996 Olympic Games took place in Atlanta. Two weeks before the lighting of the Olympic Flame, we had the chance to participate in the Peachtree Road Race for the third time, together with most of the competitors that would later run the Marathon and long distance races in the Games. Here we could meet once again our long-time Brazilian friend Carmem de Oliveira, South American record holder for all distances from 5 Km to the Marathon.
