El Salvador

Our visit to this small but varied country came as a big surprise. We hardly saw a tourist anywhere and the people were extremely nice and helpful, yet guidebooks never describe El Salvador in detail, as it deserves.

San Salvador

Picturesque buses abound in the city

Interesting things can be seen downtown

Modern Metrocentro is the biggest shopping mall in Central America

Parque Libertad

Iglesia El Rosario is adorned with stained glass panels set into an arched roof

Plaza Barrios and Palacio Nacional, built of Italian marble

The statue of Columbus facing the Catedral Metropolitana

La Libertad

La Libertad is the closest beach to San Salvador and is very popular among surfers
